01

Product & sustainability

Where is my Gastrolux cookware made?

Gastrolux products are made in Ryomgård, Denmark. Our 100% recycled aluminium comes exclusively from Scandinavia, while our coating and handles are produced in Germany.

We also apply the coating ourselves at our factory in Ryomgård, which lets us keep both cost and quality firmly under our control.

Is Gastrolux eco-friendly?

Yes. We are a green-conscious factory. We take stringent measures that fall under European Union environmental regulations, allowing us to operate as an officially eco-friendly factory.

Our manufacturing process is designed to have a positive environmental impact on the planet we work so hard to protect, and our products are sustainable — the aluminium bodies are fully recyclable.

We are also REACH certified. REACH exists to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment.

What is Biotan® Plus?

Biotan® Plus is our own unique non-stick coating, enhanced with biominerals — substances found in nature, for example in seashells.

The outstanding non-stick performance lets you fry without adding oil, helping to reduce fat and calories for healthier meals.

With Biotan® Plus we've struck an exceptional balance between outstanding, long-lasting non-stick performance and a surface that is highly wear-resistant and robust.

What does the individual code on the base of my product mean?

It's our individual production code. It tells us exactly which item it is, when it was produced, and gives us access to the quality-assurance data for that specific production batch.

How are Gastrolux handles attached?

That's our little secret! What we can tell you is that all of our handles are attached without screws, rivets or welding — and they will never come loose. No more hunting through the house for the right screwdriver.

So to all the chefs and hobby cooks who love to give their pans a good shake: we had you in mind when we designed our handle fixation.

02

Cooking & use

Is Gastrolux suitable for healthy cooking?

Absolutely. Our BIOTAN® PLUS non-stick coating lets you fry without oil or added fats — healthier, and with fewer calories.

Our handles are attached without rivets, so there are no crevices where residue can collect and bacteria can settle. The pans rinse easily and are always simple to keep hygienically clean.

Our products are certified food-safe under EU Regulation No. 1935/2004 and are produced under strict European health and safety standards.

Is Gastrolux cookware oven-proof?

Yes. Gastrolux products with standard fixed (non-removable) handles are oven-proof up to 260 °C / 500 °F.

Always use potholders or oven gloves when removing them, as the handles get hot in the oven. Keep your cookware at least 5 cm / 2 inches away from any heating coil, as the area right next to the element often exceeds the maximum temperature.

If you use a detachable handle, remove it before placing the cookware in the oven.

Why does my pan have a counter handle, and what is it for?

The counter handle shows you the pan's diameter and also helps you tell when the pan is up to temperature: place a drop of water on the counter handle as the pan heats — when it starts to sizzle, the pan is ready.

It also gives you a balanced second grip when serving (use mitts). Please always use a potholder or oven gloves, as our pans heat right up to the rim and hold heat for a long time — the counter handle gets very warm and stays warm for a while.

What heat setting do you recommend on the hob / stove?

Gastrolux cookware heats up extremely fast, evenly to the rim, and holds heat for a long time. Place a drop of water on the counter handle or in the pan before turning on the stove.

Set the stove to full heat and don't leave the cookware unattended — it heats very fast. When the water sizzles, the pan is ready; immediately turn the heat down to medium or low. Add oil if you wish, then your ingredients. At medium heat your pan is fully heated within 2–3 minutes.

When taking cookware off the heat, always lift it rather than sliding it across the stovetop — any crumbs could scratch your hob.

Which oil do you recommend, and what about its smoke point?

Gastrolux lets you fry and cook without oil, but if you prefer to use oil or fat, please note:

Never use an aerosol non-stick spray, and never heat olive oil (or any oil) beyond its smoke point. These will coat the non-stick surface and cause food to stick.

Can I use metal utensils?

Yes, you can. Metal may leave light marks, but these will not affect the non-stick finish or the pan's performance.

Can I cut or blend in my Gastrolux cookware?

No. Although BIOTAN® PLUS is extremely robust, coated cookware in general is not made for knives, forks or blenders. Cutting, blending or scraping is not covered — though it won't affect the pan's cooking performance.

We recommend transferring food to a board or bowl for these tasks.

Will I see scratches when using stainless-steel accessories?

Yes. Even though our coating is very robust, stainless-steel whisks or turners will leave light marks. These do not affect performance and are in no way dangerous.

To avoid them, we highly recommend silicone utensils.

Can I marinate or store food in my cookware?

No. Most marinades contain tomato or other acidic ingredients that will damage the coating. Please use glass containers for marinating or storing food.

03

Care & cleaning

How do I clean my Gastrolux cookware?

Rinse your cookware after every use to prevent fat build-up. Place the still-hot pan under cold water to create a thermal shock (don't worry — your Gastrolux will not warp), add a few drops of dishwashing liquid, and when you're ready to clean, use a scrubbing pad such as a Scotch-Brite (3M type).

Will my cookware warp if I put it hot under cold water?

No. Gastrolux cookware is guaranteed warp-free. You can run your hot pan under ice-cold water again and again and it will never lose its shape.

Warped or wobbling cookware wastes a lot of energy and costs you more — that will never happen with Gastrolux.

Is my Gastrolux cookware dishwasher safe?

We strongly recommend washing your Gastrolux products by hand — you'll find them extremely easy to clean.

If you do use a dishwasher, your cookware won't be ruined and your dishwasher will be fine; but coated cookware in general doesn't like aggressive detergents or tabs, and the non-stick effect will wear down faster over time than with hand washing.

The base may also pick up a very thin black powdery residue in the dishwasher, which can discolour drying cloths. This residue is in no way harmful to your health.

The coating has turned brown. Why?

This indicates oil build-up / carbonisation, which happens over time when cooking oil is used above its smoke point. Please see “Which oil do you recommend, and what about its smoke point?” above.

If the pan smokes while empty, please contact us.

Warranty & service

How long is my warranty?

We offer a 5-year warranty on the non-stick coating, provided you follow the heat, oil and overheating guidance in these FAQs.

After the first 5 years, a 15-year residual warranty applies, under which a prorated amount is charged for an exchange. Within the first 5 years, if an issue is not covered by the warranty, a minimum residual charge applies for an exchange.

In addition, Gastrolux guarantees the base of your cookware to stay warp-free for 25 years.

What if I have non-induction cookware and switch my stovetop to induction?

We'll be glad to help by offering a residual price on the pan. Please get in touch.
